Calon hakim agung Artha Theresia Silalahi, menyatakan mendukung vonis hukuman mati bagi koruptor dan bandar narkoba.
Dia menegaskan, hukuman mati merupakan bentuk pembalasan terhadap perbuatan yang dilakukan pelaku kedua kejahatan itu.
“Hukuman mati terhadap kasus korupsi dan narkotika menurut saya merupakan pembalasan terhadap perbuatan yang dilakukan (mereka). Dalam hal ini bandar narkoba dan koruptor yang sedemikian besarnya menjadi penyebab kerugian negara,” ujar Artha saat menjawab pertanyaan anggota Komisi Yudisial (KY) Farid Wajdi dalam wawancara seleksi hakim agung pada Kamis (14/11/2019).
“Jadi untuk kasus tertentu mungkin hukuman mati memang tepat, ” lanjut Artha.
Dia lalu memberikan alasan bahwa hukuman mati untuk bandar narkoba diharapkan mengurangi kejahatan mereka secara individu.
Artha mengatakan, seorang bandar memengaruhi masyarakat luas dan anak-anak sehingga terjerat kasus narkoba.
“Jadi kalau ketemu bandar, habiskan, ” tegas Artha.
Sementara itu, untuk koruptor yang tidak bisa lagi diberi efek jera, hukuman mati juga dinilainya perlu.
“Kalau koruptor tidak bisa lagi diubah, dan tidak ada harapan untuk berubah, maka saya termasuk yang setuju (diterapkan hukuman mati),” katanya.
Akan tetapi, Artha juga beranggapan bahwa hukuman mati bersifat ultimatum remedium atau penerapan sanksi pamungkas dalam penegakan hukum.
Sehingga jika masih ada kondisi yang bisa diubah atau diperbaiki, hukuman mati bisa diganti dengan hukuman seumur hidup.

Sebelumnya, KY mengumumkan, 13 calon hakim agung dinyatakan lolos dalam tahapan tes kepribadian dan kesehatan.
Mereka akan mengikuti tes wawancara pada 12-14 November mendatang di Gedung KY, Jakarta Pusat.
Hal itu diumumkan oleh Ketua Bidang Rekrutmen Hakim KY Aidul Fitriciada Azhari dalam konferensi pers di Gedung KY, Selasa (5/11/2019).
“Berdasarkan hasil sidang pleno sejak tadi pagi sampai siang, kami memutuskan ada 13 calon hakim agung yang lolos untuk (maju) ke tahap wawancara,” kata Aidul.
