Djohari Zein yang merupakan Presiden Komisaris JNE menjadi mualaf sejak 1982.
Awalnya, ia dilahirkan di Medan, Sumatera Utara dari keluarga pedagang Tionghoa.
“Saya terlahir 1954, dari keluarga WNI Tionghoa, keluarga saya Budha, dan saya disekolahkan di sekolah Katolik,” kata Djohari di Jakarta, Kamis (17/10).
Kemudian pada saat menemukan Islam 37 tahun yang lalu, semenjak itu Alquran menjadi petunjuk jalan hidupnya.
“Kalau sudah mengenal Alquran, insya Allah kita tidak akan tersesat. Kalau sudah beriman, insya Allah kita tidak berbuat zalim,” jelasnya.
Selama setengah perjalanan usianya, ia mendirikan perusahaan seperti JNE, ia pun bertekad untuk menjadikan JNE sebagai tuan rumah di negeri sendiri.
Ia juga sadar, perjuangannya tak terlepas dari pertolongan Allah SWT.
“Saya bertemu dengan guru saya Haji Suprapto, dan saya tidak mungkin bisa sukses tanpa pertolongan dari Allah,” ucap Djohari seperti dikutip republikacoid.
Ia pun turut mengamalkan ayat suci Alquran dalam surah al-Ma’un yang berisikan hingga tujuh ayat.
Dalam surah tersebut disebutkan, bahwa seorang Muslim seharusnya berbuat baik kepada anak yatim, dan memberi makan kepada orang miskin, agar tidak menyia-nyiakan ibadahnya kepada Yang Maha Penguasa.
“Berbuat kebaikan adalah tanda rasa syukur yang kita terima,” kata dia.
Kemudian pada 2000 lalu, ia menyempurnakan ibadah seorang Muslim untuk pergi haji. Pada saat di Jabal Rahmah, Djohari melihat sebuah pemandangan yang tak asing bagi dirinya.
Ternyata pemandangan tersebut pernah ia mimpikan saat masih duduk di bangku SMP.
“Pemandangan di Jabal Rahmah pernah saya lihat di mimpi saat saya SMP. Dari situ saya sadar saya adalah islam,” kenangnya.
Djohari juga berkeinginan untuk membangun sebuah masjid. Niatnya dijawab oleh Allah untuk dapat mendirikan hingga 99 masjid.
Ia mendirikan lembaga filantropi, Johari Zein Foundation, sebuah yayasan yang hendak membangun 99 masjid. Jumlah tersebut diambil dari nama-nama Allah atau Asmaul Husna.
Dari 99 masjid, saat ini Johari Zein Foundation telah membangun Masjid Zeinurrahim di desa Medana, Lombok Utara.
Jika 99 masjid sudah terbangun, Johari Zein Foundation akan kembali membangun 99 masjid lainnya.
“Saya ingin memulai perjalanan jihad ini,” ungkap Djohari.
“Dan kalau hendak antarkan kebaikan, insya Allah kita bisa mulai dengan membangun masjid,” ucap Djohari.
