Peristiwa ini terjadi di Desa Urutan, Kecamatan Andam Dewi, Tapanuli Tengah, Sumatera Utara pada Senin (19/8/2019) malam.
Kejadian bermula saat seorang penggembala bernama Sintor Habeyahan (23), berniat menghidupkan perapian untuk mengusir nyamuk di kandang kerbau. Kandang tersebut berada di rumah korban.
Saat itu, hujan sedang turun sejak petang.
Sekitar pukul 19.20 WIB saat Sintor hendak menyalakan perapian, petir tiba-tiba menyambar.
Sambaran petir mengenai ke-19 kerbau yang ada di kandang dan penggembalanya.
Penggembala dan ke-19 kerbau itu tewas seketika.
19 ekor ternak kerbau mati tersambar petir di Dusun II, Desa Urutan, Kecamatan Andam Dewi, Tapanuli Tengah, Senin (19/8/2019) dan menjadi tontonan warga. Selain kerbau, seorang warga juga tewas karena petir di saat yang sama. Kapolres Tapteng AKBP Sukamat mengatakan kepada Kompas.com (20/8/2019), korban telah diserahkan pada keluargnya untuk dimakamkan.
Sementara 19 kerbau rencananya akan dikuburkan massal dengan alat berat.
Sintor Habeyahan bukanlah pemilik dari 19 kerbau itu, ia hanya menggembala dan memeliharanya saja.
Pemilik kerbau itu sendiri bernama Mikael Simbolon (56).
Ia juga merupakan warga Dusun II, Desa Uratan, Kecamatan Andam Dewi, Kabupaten Tapteng.

“Korban selama ini bekerja mengembalakan kerbau milik Mikael Simbolon warga Dusun II, Desa Uratan, Kecamatan Andam Dewi Tapanuli Tengah.
Dan saat hujan datang kerbau sudah dimasukkan korban ke dalam kandang.
Untuk mengusir nyamuk, korban menghidupkan perapian di sekitar kandang kerbau yang berada disamping rumah orang tua korban.
Saat itulah petir datang menyambar yang mengakibatkan korban meninggal dunia beserta 19 ekor kerbau yang ada dalam kandang,” jelas Sipahutar.

Pemakaman kerbau dilakukan di Desa Sawo, tidak jauh dari lokasi kejadian di Desa Uratan, Kecamatan Andam Dewi, Tapanuli Tengah.
Sebanyak 19 ekor kerbau yang mati akibat disambar petir diangkat menggunakan alat berat dan dikubur dalam satu lubang di Desa Sawo Lamo yang tidak jauh dari lokasi kejadian di Desa Uratan, Andam Dewi, Tapanuli Tengah, Selasa (20/8//2019) sore.
Kepala Polisi Resor Tapanuli Tengah Ajun Komisaris Besar Sukamat melalui Paur Humasnya Inspektur Satu Rensa Sipahutar mengatakan, 19 ekor kerbau itu diangkat menggunakan alat berat ekskavator, lalu dipindahkan ke atas truk.
Kemudian, kerbau-kerbau itu diangkut ke Desa Sawo Lamo yang tidak jauh dari lokasi kejadian dan selanjutnya dikuburkan.
“Penguburan dilakukan menggunakan alat berat, disaksikan kepala desa, Bhabinkamtibmas, pemilik dan warga sekitar,” ujar Rensa kepada Kompas.com.
